2006/2009: First year software workshop
Recommended Books
These books are my personal recommendations and are therefore not necessarily the recommended course texts. They did however get me through my undergraduate days and thus I suggest taking a look.
- An Introduction to Programming and Object Orientated Design Using Java by Nino & Hosch. An excellent introductory text albeit slightly too formal in places.
- Core Java 2: Fundamentals volume I by Horstmann & Cornell. A more advanced text for those who already have knowledge of Java, or have experience with a different language. This is likely to remain on your bookshelf for the duration of your degree and beyond.
- Core Java 2: Advanced Features volume II by Horstmann & Cornell. The second in the Core Java series. This book covers advanced topics which you are likely to encounter during your second/third years, I do not recommend the book to first year students, however it complements volume I (above) so I have listed here for completion.
